National conference....... OF THE NIGER!
Our Nation, Nigeria Obviously, is waking up to its many challenges. from the power play at the top between the presidency and the suspended CBN Governor, to the unveiling of the Nigeria Mortgage Refinance Company(NMRC) to the fresh farce of oil scarcity that is once again threatening the very existence of Nigerians, inevitably testing our patience and indeed an age-long tolerance that Nigerians are known for. The announcement of the removal of the "late whistle lower" Mallam Sanusi Lamido" as CBN Governor indeed brought shock waves to many, and also to the Nigerian economy as the Naira plunged below against the dollar with sharp instincts that could be attributed to a naive chicken trying to protect her chicks from a hovering hawk. indeed that sole decision can be traced back to the foundation of Nigerian leadership that is mainly political motivated rather that being economically sensitive.
The nation is indeed at a crossroad, battling with seeming inflation in the nearest months and also trying to balance the scale in the nation's economic recovery. No doubt the recent long petrol ques that have resurfaced in different cities around the country is a testimony that all is not really well, and until something important is done soon, the situation could go from bad to worse, anyway like the saying goes "sometimes sh*t happens"
With great pleasure, Nigeria had its centenary celebrations, with the Good, Bad and Ugly. It was indeed a great pleasure to watch our heroes past, present and future all gather in spirit, person, or by proxy to celebrate a nation that had been blessed and battered by all forces good and evil. Indeed it was worth celebrating not minding what critics of the celebrations had to say, it did a good job in reminding us of all our faults, yearnings, dreams, and the hope of a brighter and greener tomorrow.
Indeed you must love this country, Nigeria! After all the flamboyant display of our cultural heritage, the essence of our ancestry. What could be more than that? It was wonderful through and through, all the prayers offered for the nation, the feeling of oneness and unity at a time like this when the least expectation would have been a nation on the verge of crumble! There could be no other nation as favored and blessed as this.
But, what lies next are our numerous challenges that we must face squarely, with utmost honestly and and sense of dedication to our dear motherland.
We are yet to experience a more unifying experience that may yet determine the structure and indeed the future of our dear nation, as the presidency have released names of the 492-man delegates that would represent every part of the nation at the conference. All hopes are high and we are expecting this historical event to pave the way for the next 100 years and be a beacon of hope for future generations.
Lets not be quick to forget the national disgrace the previous national conference was, held under the Olusegun Obasanjo's tenure. The selfishness of one man caused a whole nation years of frustration, irreparable loss of funds budgeted for that sole event, all for one man's greed! That's the nation we live in, and its not just a Nigerian thing anyway, its everywhere. Here, Only the willingness to fight that greed is amiss.
With all our high hopes for a better and greater Nigeria, i believe this national conference will do justice to all the ailing issues of conflict that has bothered on us for too long.
